Why this site exists
Most “best of” lists online are reverse-engineered from affiliate commissions, not testing. A site notices that a particular product pays the highest cut and quietly nudges it to the top. The result: page after page of charts that look authoritative but mostly sort by vendor margin.
Expert Choice US exists to do the opposite. We pick first, then publish. Editors live with the products, score them, and write up the winners (and the losers, by name). If the product that pays us the most happens to also be the best, fine. Most of the time it isn’t, and we say so.
What we cover
Eight everyday categories: Home Improvement, Kitchen & Dining, Patio & Garden, Electronics, Grocery & Food, Pet Supplies, Beauty, and Automotive. The same family buying a coffee maker also needs a vacuum, a phone case, and a pair of running shoes. We would rather earn your trust across the board than specialize in one tiny lane.
How we test
We start with what real shoppers are searching for, cross-reference bestsellers and editorial picks from publications we trust, then narrow to the models worth our time. Each finalist runs through a four-criterion rubric:
- Durability. Does it survive real life? Coffee makers brewed daily, sneakers run in actual rain, kids’ bikes left out overnight.
- Real-world value. Price-per-year of use, not sticker price. A $200 thing that lasts five years beats a $90 thing replaced every fall.
- 90 days in. Are we still reaching for it three months later, or has it migrated to the basement? Honeymoon picks don’t make the list.
- Would we re-buy. If our editors wouldn’t spend their own money to replace it, it doesn’t get our recommendation.
How we make money
Expert Choice US participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you buy through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We may also participate in additional affiliate programs from time to time, which we will disclose on our Affiliate Disclosure page as they are added.
That is the entire monetization model. No sponsored rankings. No pay-to-feature deals. No native advertising disguised as editorial. If a product underperforms, we say so, even if we can’t earn a commission from a better alternative.
Who we are
A small team of American editors and product testers who would rather quietly do the work than perform it on social media. Names and bios coming as the masthead settles. In the meantime, every recommendation on this site has at least one editor’s reputation attached to it, and a “last updated” date so you can see how recent our judgement is.
Reader feedback
If you disagree with a pick, or have one to suggest, tell us. Reader feedback is the fastest way we discover blind spots in our testing. Drop a note on the contact page; every message gets read, and the good ones shape our next update.
